Peter Li lands in New York

Peter Zhi Chao Li arrives from Guangzhou and starts working at a Chinatown grocery the morning after landing. Three months later the owner decides to fold, so Peter takes over and renames it Li’s Market.

Peter worked in the meat trade back in China, so he turns the grocery into a butcher shop at 47 Division Street, selling fresh meat at near-wholesale prices to a working neighborhood.
